Implementation Process

The EnerTrac implementation process is an evolved, time-tested four stage process that logically moves from start through full rollout to assure success.  The four stages are:

1. Trial

Try a few monitors.
Are they easy to install? Can you see the data right away? Is the data accurate?


2. Setup & Verify

Once you are comfortable with the monitors, you move to a larger controlled test deployment. This stage culminates in a checkpoint that details the training and operational procedures that have been implemented and “stress tested” to assure that you are ready to move to a Pilot deployment.

3. Pilot

The objective of the pilot stage is to measure the business results from tank monitoring for each category of customer. This measurement is necessary in order to plan how tank monitoring will be rolled out in the Production stage of the processes.

4. Production

In the production stage all systems and procedures have been tested and the final phase it to initiate a broader rollout, finalize on-going KPI measurement and complete the network deployment.

1: Trial

The Trial stage is essentially a proof of concept for the dealer. A few monitors are installed at select customer locations. Initial customer monitor setup and transaction reporting are established. The trial stage helps the dealer understand ease-of-installation, the quantity and quality of monitor data provided, and if continuing with the project makes sense. There is little commitment at this stage of the process, but it provides a limited hands-on experience to help the dealer make a more informed decision.



The setup and verify stage culminates in a checkpoint that details the training and operational procedures that have been implemented and “stress tested” to assure that the dealer is ready to move forward.

A dealer customer distribution analysis is made and compared to network and tower availability, view shed coverage and network build-out requirements.

A training schedule for dealer drivers and service technician is established and includes the following:

  • Training for all physical installation procedures
  • Dos, don’ts
  • Training for installation and support for propane customers
  • Dispatcher training for potential deficiency conditions and use of EnerTrac reports
  • CSRT training on EnerTrac/BOS client software
  • Develop implementation plan

A limited number of monitors are installed and all systems are exercised to develop familiarity and ensure the dealer is fully trained and prepared for a more comprehensive rollout.  To that end, a readiness report is generated indicating the level of dealer proficiency, and highlighting where appropriate any additional training or preparation that might be required.



The pilot stage begins with refinement of the implementation plan based upon dealer experience from the setup and verify stage.  A single office, region or route is selected for a preliminary rollout.  The result of this effort will be a further refinement or fine tuning of the implementation plan and deliveries with an eye toward a dealer-wide rollout.

The network is configured for the pilot area, a detailed view shed is developed and required towers and gateways are scheduled.  Tower-based gateways are deployed.

The pilot will also establish the dealer’s preparation and ability to scale to a full implementation of the total dealer customer base.


In the production stage all training, gathered experience and implementation refinements are focused on a complete company-wide rollout.  Dealer and EnerTrac are fully committed to the total implementation and complete network deployment.
